AtreNet Services clients company

Case Study:

EVault

EVault, Inc. provides complete data protection solutions that offer high availability, secure backup, and immediate recovery of business-critical data to help meet regulatory compliance requirements. Seagate Technology, Inc. acquired EVault, Inc. in 2007. Seagate Technology turned to AtreNet when they wanted to integrate EVault's website, which supported five countries and included approximately 600 pages of content.

Seagate wanted to unify the brand identities of its Seagate Services business unit with EVault. A consistent user experience needed to be created that accommodated numerous business objectives, user requirements and ongoing marketing campaigns. To complicate matters further each website had its own unique IT infrastructure. Time was critical, as pending acquisition was fueling pressure to complete the project quickly, compressing timelines and creating urgency among the disparate marketing and IT organizations.

AtreNet's expertise and experience conforming to the best practices of enterprise IT departments quickly established trust with Seagate Service's and EVault's respective technical stakeholders. This bridge was critical to the broader collaboration between their IT departments and their respective marketing teams.

Technical and design challenges were discovered that required innovative solutions from AtreNet. Seagate Services infrastructure utilized highly restrictive templates. Additionally, EVault's website used server side includes (SSI's) within their website. Unfortunately the use of SSI's was inconsistent and a portion of content across the 600-page site had been hard coded. Continued reliance on the websites existing SSI's would have required tedious work to transfer all the existing content into the new design. AtreNet solved the design problems and employed its own PHP libraries, simplifying content migration and enabling the project to be completed in only 30 days.

The Challenge

  • Integrate the website of a new acquisition, EVault, Inc., into the Seagate Services website within a month
  • Unify the brand identity of EVault and Seagate Service and create a consistent user experience across two entirely different IT infrastructures
  • EVault's 600-page website relied on server side includes (SSI), but there use had violated best practices, creating a major technical for hurdle increasing timeline pressure
  • Seagate Services restrictive templates represented a significant challenge to designing a consistent user experience between both websites
  • The new design needed to serve the strategic goals of each organization and seamlessly integrate the existing marketing campaigns of each business unit

The Solution

  • AtreNet created a consistent look and feel that elevated and unified the brand identity of both business units
  • We implemented a fresh information architecture that could easily be updated to accommodate a new acquisition
  • We employed our own PHP libraries to improve maintenance and facilitate content migration to the new designs
  • AtreNet established trust among the various technical and marketing stakeholders that facilitated collaboration and enabled project completion within 30-days
