Case Study:
VMware Web Experience Design
VMware virtual infrastructure solutions are used by enterprises large and small to increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their IT operations. VMware approached AtreNet to provide technical, design and strategic expertise for a comprehensive site redesign. VMware is regarded as the undisputed leader in the virtualization market space, but their existing web site failed to convey this impression and the infrastructure lacked scalability and maintainability. AtreNet delivered a complete strategic roadmap for the site, developed modern, flexible new designs, and served as a partner through production and launch of VMware.com. In parallel with the main project, we also developed the look-and-feel of a rebranded community portal.
The Challenge
- VMware had established a strong reputation and connections with the IT engineer community, but the new site needed to effectively promote VMware "up the food chain"
- The new site should introduce VMware to first-time visitors, rather than assuming knowledge of VMware or of virtualization technologies
- Content on the current site was geared towards a more technical audience and lacked a compelling narrative from high-level value points to detail
- The existing infrastructure was cumbersome to maintain, with a mix of technologies and authentication schemes that served as a barrier to timely updates of the site
- VMware's community portal (VMware Technology Network) would be relaunched well ahead of VMware.com, requiring AtreNet to create designs and interfaces that would resonate with the eventual relaunch of the corporate site
- VMware had many internal dependencies, both from a technical and content perspective, that made it important for AtreNet to work effectively and quickly within a dynamic schedule
